Bottomline Wednesday, September 27, 2006
We all know that the bottomline for all consulting companies in picture is profit - period! Your personal growth, interests, etc are secondary or they don't matter. If the rate is good and you fit the bill they will try to sell you to the client.
If you are soft (and/or have been on the bench for a while :-)), they will try to sell you almost anywhere - by anywhere I mean even those openings/requirements where your skill sets remotely match. But, if you are assertive, you can work it the desirable way. In my opinion,if a person is confident about his/her own skills - both technical and communication, they can afford to be assertive. If he/she can crack an interview or land a project, then those marketing guys at the consulting company will take notice and your ability to be more assertive would increase proportionally!
As I said earlier, their bottomline is money. If they know, you are saleable and more importantly - if you know that you are saleable, then you can get things on your terms. May be not entirely, but at least close! Or else, once you have that confidence going - you can sell yourself and get another host (any other H1B sponsoring consulting company) and toss the current one.
So I would like to reiterate, what I said in the earlier piece - You can make it win-win!
To be cont'd....

More reasons to visit DesiCrunch Saturday, September 23, 2006
DesiCrunch.com becomes 2 months old today.
As of today, website has been visited by more than 4000 vistors and average time spent is ~ 3 minutes by each. Although its no big deal but we are happy about the point that more than 75% users are coming through somekind of personal(virtual mouth to mouth) referal (we analyse this from weblogs & random surveys).
Today we launched few changes on desicrunch.com .
We have started a new series of "cartoon of the week". We are trying to base this cartoon series on few characters which desi consultants can relate very well. (more on our cartoon characters in next blog post) Our first cartoon:
We had been trying to complete one animation/video clip for promotion of DesiCrunch on internet. We are partially done with the clip. Positive to get it all set in next weeks time & let it pass on various video channels on google & youtube, so that more people know about desicrunch. Have fun - "Desicrunch video".
"Desicrunch map" is another feature on the list. As of now it helps you to find few stores & cinema places in NJ & other area.(database is incomplete). However in coming days we have some brilliant ideas to implement on map.
We have been advised by one of my guru that Article section of website is of great utility and needs more attention. We have started taking help of one of our close friend to give us good informative articles. And we are still thinking on how to make website more usefull.
As you saw in last blog, one of our friend, has voluntered to write blogs for us. He is part of desicrunch team now and we are sure his experience/writings will be of great help to many people.
We are getting regular mails from our vistors[from USA/India/Canada] asking for advice/solutions on some job situations, and we are trying our best to give some pointers.
We are working every single day(after day job) to make desicrunch more intersting place. We need your help to refer us to your friends, so that we get more user inputs and become better in things we want to do.
Do you have any suggestions/critics/appreciation ? pls. write here on blog or drop a mail to info{at}desicrunch{decimal point}com

Desis in crunch Wednesday, September 20, 2006
This is a decent website for all of us desis in crunch or not so much in crunch, to make an informed decision - regarding seeking employment with a desi employer here in US or india (normally the ones here have a base in india). I havent seen any of these type (i.e. websites), around on the web!
Anyway, first let me introduce myself. I am a desicrunch blogger - volunteered to blog, because I wanted to share some of my experiences (with desi companies).
I have been around for a few years - have learnt fairly well how this thing works - worked with a few desi employers - the pros and the cons - how to live with it and how to create a win-win situation!
Well, I know you would say its not even close to win-win, it's more like lose-win (i.e us losing).
But remember its all in your head! If you make peace with it and be smart about it, you can get the most out of it.
More later...
